Okay, so Iraq is right now in a sectarian civil war. The sides:
1) Shia, have the majority of present government power, their militas tend to focus on killing Sunnis.
2) Sunni, the minority, had been in power when Saddam was around, their militas tend to focus on killing Shia and/or insurgency against the U.S.
So, given that over-simplification, take a wild guess which side Al Qaeda is backing.
So either Reyes has no understanding of the core battle going on in Iraq or he's not able to make a logical base on the basis of that understanding.
He originally opposed the war, but now is opposing withdrawal:
I hate to say it, but Pelosi picked a guy who is in no way qualified to be the Intelligence Committee chair. Passing over Hastings because he was corrupt is all well and good. Passing over the second choice due to personal animosity was a mistake. Harman had issues (initial backing of the war, like me, unlike Reyes), but by the sound of it, she was at least highly qualified. I didn't have any problem with this call initially, but I'm not the speaker, I didn't have a chance to just check if the new chair knew jack. This is just effing embarrassing and we deserve bad press over it.
