Day 2

Lot of reading material today. I think I need to plan my food/caffeine intake better, as I kind of crashed around 4 pm. Still, go through a lot. Most interesting bit was probably the Standish's groups Chaos report on why software projects failure. It's been around since the mid 1990s, but I'd never read it before.

Key stat: 16.2% of projects successful, 52.7% of projects challenged, 31.1 outright cancelled.

GAO reports were informative but less exciting. As a general rule, reading the summaries on those is enough. They use good summaries, but the content itself often doesn't add much. More charts and graphs and less text would probably help.

Also, I found and downloaded the Glossary: Defense Acquisition Acronyms and Terms, 12th edition, July 2005. I'll never be at a loss for military jargon again.

Finally, I'm finishing up data processing for my thesis. I've done my primary source processing and am now organizing my notes and making sure all of my checkbox summaries of protests are correct. That should be finished Wednesday. Then write, write, write, review, and submit!
