My parents, not to mention time itself, are putting a great deal of pressure on me to figure out what I want to do with my next few years.

This coming year I may well find a paying job with the academics I love working with now, though I'd only want to spend a year at that.

Otherwise, I'm not sure how willing I am to work in the computer industry to raise money for a bit. I can consider working as a techie in some sort of public service job, but I'm extremely hesitant to get on a tech track. I could always pay my dues for a while working for a congress person or international organization, but I want adventure. Maybe there is some organization with an international bent I could go for.

Foreign service may be an option, but I can't know until I hear my test results in the next few days.

If I can't find something that excites me, I think I'll go for peacecorp, it'll get me adventure and a hell of a lot of experience, plus a strange disease or two.

and, its long been my conviction that should there be talk of restoring the draft, or a need for massive recruitment, I'd join the military. Who knows, we live in a world where that conviction may well be tested.
