Instead, I'm referring to going to Karaoke last night with capfox kamalloy bannoubunkacoby and amalthya. I sang Steppenwolf's Born to be Wild and the Beatles' 'Back In the USSR'. Two favorites of mine, though the second proved to be a bit more fun cause of the Georgia bit. And, possessing a Ukraine bit will, as it was a shout out to reene, who was in NY this time, :P
The actual bar was none to classy, but only had a $2 cover, so that's not so bad. Pool tables and such were also available, which is nice for killing time between sets. Their signup system worked well, you could only have one request in at a time and they had basically a deli counter so you knew how soon you were going to be up. There was some unnecessary (in my view, well, unnecessary if you're tech is better than they had) delay between songs, but the others told me it was unnecessary.
Another plus was the bar people were pretty funny and supportive, even when drunk. And there were some really terrible singers to use as a baseline. I didn't kill anyone with my voice, and the rest of our crew that sang were quite good. Definitely hope to do this again.
Addendum: While I do in general approve of Remingtons and Laurel, I was dismayed to realize my pants smelled of cigarrette smoke this mroning. And was also reminded that at one point in the evening smoke got in my eyes, not in the sappy sense of the song of that name, but in the my eyes are irritated and it's hard to keep them open sense. This is unfortunate.
